The Saskatchewan Government and General Employees’ Union (SGEU) is welcoming new Executive Director, Rikki Boté, who started in the union’s most senior management position on May 10.
“I’m pleased to welcome Rikki to this important role in the union,” said Tracey Sauer, SGEU president. “We’re fortunate to have someone with her experience, skills and energy joining our team. Rikki’s passion and enthusiasm will serve us well as we continue advocating for and protecting the rights of working people across the province.”
In addition to working directly with the SGEU Administration Committee comprised of the president and other senior elected officials, Boté will oversee approximately 65 staff employed in SGEU’s three offices located in Regina (head office), Saskatoon and Prince Albert.
“I’m excited and honoured to begin this new role,” Boté said. “This is an incredible opportunity to work with a dedicated complement of staff and elected leaders in supporting SGEU members who provide important programs and services to residents throughout Saskatchewan.”
Ms. Boté has more than 25 years of experience in strategic planning, issues and risk management and communications with the Government of Saskatchewan, SaskGaming and CBC in Saskatchewan. In her previous roles, she was responsible for program development, media, government and stakeholder relations, culture and engagement, and change management. Boté holds a degree in Arts and graduate certificates in public policy and senior management development.
“This is an important time for the labour movement as workers and their families face ongoing challenges posed by the COVID-19 crisis,” Boté said. “As we move toward the recovery phase of the pandemic and beyond, it will be critical to help our members navigate changes to the economy, their workplaces and their communities. I’m committed to working hard to ensure our members’ needs and interests are well represented.”
SGEU represents approximately 20,000 members in six sectors working across Saskatchewan in areas such as the provincial government, Crown Corporations, health care, liquor retailing and distribution, education and community-based services.
