SGEU saddened to see loss of more rural jobs amid closure of Information Services Corporation customer service offices
September 20, 2019
SGEU is saddened to hear that 16 positions are being lost, after the Information Services Corporation (ISC) announced recently that they would be closing Customer Service Centres in Prince Albert, Yorkton and Humboldt. Three more positions in the Regina Customer Service Centre are also being abolished.
ISC provides registry and information management for public data and records in relation to land titles, liens, legal survey plans, maps and corporate registries.
“These offices and members provided hands-on expertise to the public, which unfortunately will no longer be available in these communities. These are dedicated workers who are experts in their field, and while some services are now online, a computer simply cannot replace the expertise these members provided to the public,” said SGEU President Bob Bymoen.
SGEU will be working closely with affected members to ensure they are provided with all the benefits outlined within the Collective Bargaining Agreement.
“It’s unfortunate to see these positions being abolished. These are more job cuts to rural communities that are hard to replace,” said Bymoen.
The Prince Albert, Humboldt and Yorkton offices will close permanently on October 4, 2019. The three positions in Regina will also be abolished on October 4, 2019.
