SGEU offers condolences to La Loche and gratitude to its members on the frontlines
SGEU wishes to offer its sincere condolences to the community of La Loche, and to those in the surrounding area affected by last week’s tragedy. We are thinking of everyone directly affected, especially the students and teachers at La Loche Community School, and the families and friends of the victims.
We also wish to extend our sympathy to all of our members, and their families, in the province’s northern region. Our members in health care and social services are on the frontlines responding to this tragedy, and we are grateful for the care they’ve been providing to their community during this difficult time. We know that in tight-knit communities, the impact of such a terrible event touches many lives.
At times like this, it is important for people to come together to grieve and to heal. As a sign of our support, the SGEU Education Sector, which has members in the La Loche area, has made a donation towards the funerals and traditional Indigenous wakes taking place. SGEU and the Public Service Sector have also made donations to the community of La Loche.
SGEU wishes to express its gratitude to all our members in the north, who we know will continue to serve the community with dedication and compassion.
