What is an MSO?
MSOs are trained and experienced labour relations professionals. They are you and your steward’s first point of contact for workplace concerns, union-related questions, or guidance on your rights and responsibilities.
They provide support, advice and direction to help resolve issues efficiently and effectively – and they’re here for both members and stewards.
MSOs can:
- Provide timely answers and expert advice
- Help you understand your rights under your collective agreement
- Support stewards in assisting other members
- Refer you to a Labour Relations Officer if needed
Our goal is to ensure you get the help you need quickly and efficiently.
MSOs are knowledgeable, approachable, and skilled in:
- Collective agreement structure and rules of interpretation
- Conflict resolution and issue management
- Supporting stewards in the workplace
- Relationships with Labour Relations Officers and internal union teams
- Note-taking, documentation, and evidence management
- Common workplace issues and how to address them
- Understanding the union’s bargaining process
Their training means they’re ready to help with a wide range of issues — or connect you with the right person if your concern needs to be escalated.
Who Should Contact an MSO?
Stewards and Elected Leaders
MSOs are also a key support resource for stewards. If you’re helping a member and need a second opinion, clarification on a process, or direction on how to proceed, the MSO team is here to assist you.
