No. 4 – May 2024

Dear members,

Your SGEU health providers negotiating team met with the Saskatchewan Association of
Health Organizations (SAHO) and the Saskatchewan Health Authority (SHA) twice since
our last update. We met on March 27 and 28 virtually due to winter weather conditions
and in Prince Albert on April 2, 3 and 4. Both parties thoroughly reviewed each other’s
proposal packages, and we continue to work through our individual proposals. No
monetary proposals have been discussed to date.

Upcoming meeting dates

Our next confirmed bargaining dates are scheduled for May 14 to 16 and  July 9 to 10.

Watch your union board and email for a list of locations, dates and times where your negotiating committee will be present to provide information to members regarding bargaining.

Employer proposals

SAHO has tabled proposed changes to modernize the language in our collective
bargaining agreement. These are minor changes that will not affect the meaning or
content of our contract. They also tabled changes to standardize the language in our
collective agreement to align with CUPE and SEIU-West.

Union proposals

In 2022, you were asked to submit proposals to let us know what you would like to see in
our next collective agreement. Based on your submissions, SGEU has tabled proposals
that include, but are not limited to:
• A fair and reasonable wage increase
• Increases to shift differential, weekend differential, standby premiums, call-back,
transportation rates, responsibility pay and overtime rates of pay
• Increases to time in lieu bank and medical care leave
• Maternity leave top-up
• Changes to our family leave and bereavement leave language
• Post-traumatic stress counselling and leave
• Professional licensing fees to be fully paid by the employer
• Portability of benefits for members co-employed within workplaces represented by
other health provider unions
• Increased funding for extended health and enhanced dental benefits
• Cultural diversity language
• Long service recognition
• Employment re-instatement
• Mentorship program and training, instruction, education, and preceptorship
• Retention allowance for hard to recruit classifications
• LPN full scope utilization
• Increase to northern retention strategies
